- Entering our 21st year of ministry in East Pokot, Kenya.

School East Pokot Kenya Brief History: Due to the violence and constant warfare with neighboring tribes, East Pokot has been shunned and isolated from the rest of Kenya. They have remained a very traditional, poor, uneducated and unchurched people living in very harsh semi-arid bush country. This tribal isolation has had dire consequences. In the past, children were raised uneducated and without ever hearing about a God who loves them because there were almost no schools or churches. Your contributions have built Christian schools and churches, and we have seen God transform this tribe from one of violence and darkness to peace and knowledge. The transformation is truly amazing, but there are still many villages and communities in need of schools or churches. They are literally begging for our help.

“There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal.” – C.S. Lewis.

C.S Lewis is right. Each person is a special creation of God, but I find it absolutely incredible that out of 8 billion people on earth, no two of us are alike. Our physical appearance, voice, personality traits, habits, intelligence, and personal tastes make every person unique. Even our fingerprints distinguish us from every other human being, past, present and future. God knew each of us before we were born and no one is a mistake. None of us are the product of some random evolutionary process or cosmic assembly line. The most important aspect of our identity is that we are made in the image of God.

Without exception, every person is of immeasurable value to Him. The poor, uneducated, those who have no knowledge of Him, and even those who pay Him no mind at all, are created in His image and are precious to Him. “Herein is love,” the Bible says, “not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation (full payment) for our sins.” These undervalued and overlooked boys, girls, women and men are the focus of our ministry at Light of Life Mission in East Pokot, Kenya. Sharing the whole gospel of Jesus Christ is our first and most important goal, and we accomplish that by establishing Christian community.

Our model is simple. First, in this remote bush country we only go into villages or areas that do not have a school or church, where we have been invited. Second, we do the most obvious thing: we build a Christian primary school and a church. We then have our school teachers follow the authorized Kenyan curriculum and teach Bible lessons. But most of all, they love the children. Finally, a godly and knowledgeable pastor in each new church is essential for spiritual growth in the community, and our ministry supports the pastor in their ministry. We build the school and church in close proximity to each other, because strong Christian communities need both to succeed.

Current Projects

  • We built a large church last year (which has already grown to over two hundred attendees) at our central compound in Kokwo Toto, but we did not have adequate funds to complete it. We need to purchase and install two doors and seven windows. We also need to purchase fifty bags of cement and three loads of sand to point the outside block walls. We estimate that $2,500 is needed to finish these projects at the church.
  • Our Christian primary school in Kokwo Banga continues to outgrow the facility and now the 5th and 6th grades each need a classroom. We estimate that $3,500 will complete each of the two classrooms for a total of $7,000. Ongoing expenses for the school consist of salaries for the teachers, learning materials, food for school lunches and student uniforms. $3,000 is needed to cover expenses for the entire new school year.
  • Every Sunday morning a group of faithful mamas, children and young men meet for church at a remote place called Samaria. They sit on rocks under low trees to worship while Pastor Jonathan preaches to them after his regular Sunday sermon at Kokwo Banga church. I made a promise to these faithful mamas that I would ask our supporters for their help. My desire is to build a shelter to shield them from the sun and rain for an approximate cost of $2,000, or better yet, build a church for an approximate cost of $6,000.
  • High school is not free in Kenya, and some of our students from poor families need help to cover their tuition. If you contact me at the address below, I will connect you with a boy or girl (your choice), and you can correspond with them. Partial tuition assistance is $200 for the entire school year. As always, no one at Light of Life Mission has ever taken a salary of any kind from mission contributions. All donations go directly to mission projects and expenses.
